Aqua Teen Hunger Force Movie

Wow. I have to post this because it’s of immense importance to the future of the world. The official movie poster for the upcoming Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie has been released and it is FANTASTIC. This thing melds together little bits of history from some great movie posters in an all-encompassing masterpiece. Visually glorious. I can point out parts that were inspired by Star Wars, Army of Darkness, Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja, amongst others, I’m sure.

You can view the post I found it on here.

Simply awesome.

Free Work is a Design No-No

To those who are looking for someone to do work for free… please, wake up and join the real world.

I rarely post about things besides my own artwork but this is a definite exception. This article was found on Craigslist apparently after someone got really angry about all of the requests for free designs. Probably one of the better articles I’ve ever read pertaining to this subject.

Here’s a quick sample of what the article holds. You can read the whole thing at No!Spec, a site dedicated to keeping industry standards real and flattening the opposition of Do-It-Yourselfers who use templates to build websites instead of hiring a real designer.

Example:
Every day, there are more and more CL posts seeking “artists” for everything from auto graphics to comic books to corporate logo designs. More people are finding themselves in need of some form of illustrative service.

But what they’re NOT doing, unfortunately, is realizing how rare someone with these particular talents can be.

To those who are “seeking artists”, let me ask you; How many people do you know, personally, with the talent and skill to perform the services you need? A dozen? Five? One? …none?

More than likely, you don’t know any. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be posting on craigslist to find them.

And this is not really a surprise.

In this country, there are almost twice as many neurosurgeons as there are professional illustrators. There are eleven times as many certified mechanics. There are SEVENTY times as many people in the IT field.

So, given that they are less rare, and therefore less in demand, would it make sense to ask your mechanic to work on your car for free? Would you look him in the eye, with a straight face, and tell him that his compensation would be the ability to have his work shown to others as you drive down the street?

Would you offer a neurosurgeon the “opportunity” to add your name to his resume as payment for removing that pesky tumor? (Maybe you could offer him “a few bucks” for “materials”. What a deal!)

Would you be able to seriously even CONSIDER offering your web hosting service the chance to have people see their work, by viewing your website, as their payment for hosting you?

If you answered “yes” to ANY of the above, you’re obviously insane. If you answered “no”, then kudos to you for living in the real world.

Mammal Swap

I decided to try something new this time.. an all-vector piece that I actually enjoy quite a bit. I call it “Mammal Swap” as you can see from the freaky looking critter in the foreground.

The inspiration for this piece came from the Eastern Hog-Nosed Snake that has a hog-tipped snout. I thought it would be funny to take this animal one step further and make it a cross between a pig and a snake, thus the final outcome. I threw it on a background straight out of Super Mario Bros. and Viola! A masterpiece.. maybe.

Needless to say I don’t think there is a need for such a creature in this world but, if due to some strange twist in evolution, these animals suddenly become mainstream you can bet I’ll be enjoying snake bacon on Saturday mornings.
